- On Tuesday, Snapdragon 855 was officially unveiled by Qualcomm in Hawaii. It is the first of a new generation of smartphone processor chips that will power 5G smartphones in US as soon as next year.
- The key feature of the Snapdragon 855 chip set is its 5G Snapdragon X50 modem for phones to connect to 5G data networks with “multi-gigabit”mobile speeds of up 50 or 100 times much faster than the current 4G networks.
-Qualcomm also mentioned that Snapdragon 855 would power Samsung 5G smartphones, that Samsung and Verizon Communications said would be launched in the United States in the first half of 2019.
-As per Qualcomm, Snapdragon 855 would feature the world's first Computer Vision (CV) ISP that would help smartphones to recognize objects and faces, and power new video capture features.
-Qualcomm also added that the Snapdragon 855 would support new Qualcomm ultrasonic fingerprint sensor - called Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor - that will read the user’s fingerprint through the smartphones touch screen.
-More details about the SoC will be unveiled during annual Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii.
- The Samsung phone would be a major challenge for Apple, its biggest rival in the American smartphone market, as the iPhone manufacturer is currently engaged in a legal battle with Qualcomm ( the largest supplier of mobile phone chips ).
